Wow
Yea, so this is by far the most fun I've had in band in my 4 years. Last night at the game, a bunch of people had these noisemakers, even Cameron's kids got a couple. So much fun, I was pouring gatorade and William came up behind me and blew loudly in the noisemaker causing me to pour gatorade on myself. Cameron laughed his ass off! Then when I call the devil dance, they all love it, with the percussion beat. We sound pretty good in the stands, A LOT better than last year I think. We met BC's band, they've very nice, drum major, she was nice too we didn't get to talk much though, just the hey nice to meet you, then I saw the seniors walking back :-(. It's pretty awesome when the student section cheers for you, :-).

We have these flags that you put on your car windows, and Kyle and Ethan decided to stick the flags on their bells instead. Very amusing. Then they showed about 10 seconds of our show on the news last night.

When we got back to Dreher, we had our party at the trashcan, ohhh that was fun. We chant, "Party at the Trashcan". Then in the hallways, it was dark, so I started the chant "Dark and Creepy, Dark and Creepy." Everyone started saying it, then when the lights were turned on, "Light and Bright, Light and Bright". Then when this ghetto girl started going crazy doing some weird dance, I started "Hoochie Mama, oh oh, Hoochie Mama, oh oh!" It was the funniest thing.

Great night. Put me in a very good mood.

Now, it's time for....HOMECOMING WEEK!!!

Life's great right now, I talked to Luke last night, he's having fun at Duke.

And I'm 29th in the class, which is top 15%...I think.

Adios,
David

Hi.

27 July 2006 @ 09:06 pm
So, let's see. We finally have lines on the field!!! Hmm, I really wasn't in a good mood today, and neither was Vera. It was the 4th day, and people still couldn't stand still at attention, and were messing their horns up and horns down, just EASY stuff like that. First, I went off on the woodwinds, then I went to the low brass. I really truly do hate being hard on the low brass, b/c they have the heaviest instruments, but they need to be worked like that. They'll appreciate it a lotttt more later. Then I ran the colorguard. When their usual captains came back, they said they wanted me to stay. I felt special. hahaha. Then during dinner. Ethan put a cookie in Georgia's cup, that was amusing. Then when she went to get another cup, Kyle put her retainer in the fruit salad. Then when Chris came up to talk to Ethan, Ethan just said "Dude, go away." lmao! Then we went into the gym to play "Basketball 2.0" which is where we get the ball and hit Chris with it. So everyone got a turn, then I ran him out of the gym. And EVERYONE clapped for me, so I picked up one of the guard's flags and did a victory lap. Then during rehersal, once again we somehow found a way to mess with Iron Man. Today, I did polka Iron Man. We couldn't really play it b/c we were laughing so hard. Then we went outside, and I wore Georgia's sunglasses, these girly sunglasses and found a piece of the band tower way on the other side of the field, interesting. I almost wacked Meagan (one of the USC helpers) in the stomach, oops. William, Cameron's son, kept following me around. Then after more drilling outside, we did the drum major dance that Vera and I learned. The first time wasn't too good. So I went over with the colorguard, and yelled it out again, then I danced. The colorguard was so awesome. Then we went into the gym, and the drumline started playing something in a dark hallway, so I went in the middle and decided to dance too, even though I was supposed to go get them in attendance block so we can be dismissed. But I knew, it was going to be a wait anyway so I let them dance and I danced too. According to one guardmember I'm a "trip". hahaha, apparently, one of the dances I did is an actual dance!! AHH!!!

Ok, one day left
Night,
David

Day 1-Well let's see, the field wasn't lined. But we still went outside and practiced the very basics. I was with the percussion, but I liked to be with the low brass/horns better, they're the best. Then we got in a block, where Vera and I taught the band Hey Joe! This is when Luke showed up and did Hey Joe! with us. He really got into it, very very funny. Then we taught the band line changes. Hehe, I never knew that the band didn't know their left from right, sheeeesh. We would do it at the most random times. Then, since we had no lines, we went into the gym where we made our own yard lines with tape. Then we practiced marching and all. Then during dinner, we took as many empty soda cans that we could find and me and pyramid with them. Woooo, good times. JENGA!!!!! lmao. Then we talked politics. Then during music rehearsal, Vera and I were stuck sorting music out.

Day 2- Let's see, when we got there, this boy was there playing bball so a few of us played with him. Then we got in block did everything. Then we went to marching sectionals and worked on the usual stuff. When the lowbrass/horns did horns up, they did it pretty bad. It looked like the wave. So I showed that by running down the line and then jumping randomly, don't even ask. But I felt something strain or something, so when I landed I said that I pulled something, so everyone laughed at me. They were at attention, by Kyle said "You now have permission to laugh at David!" :-(. It was funny, even though I was kinda embarrassed. Hmm..let's see. I played my solo, it's pretty nice. Then I conducted the music for the first time. I withheld most of my special moves and all, just b/c the band was kind of iffy and they would just mess up. During sectionals, the horns showed up the baritones and Kyle just goes "We got served."

Day 3- Ok, so day 3, STILL NO LINES ON THE FIELD! There's nothing Cameron can do about it. But it should be down on Thursday. Let's see, we did more basics block and sectionals stuff. Vera and I had a talk with the woodwind section leaders b/c they were being wayyyy tooo easy on that section. So Vera and I ran it for a bit, just to show the leaders pointers. Then we had a squad competition to see who goes to dinner first. I thought the low brass/horn section did the best, they had a pretty nice horn flash. But the trumpets and saxes incorporated more of the things that they've been learning, so they won. Then Tiffany decided to toss a water bottle up and let it drop on the gym floor, destroying the bottle and allowing water to go everywhere. That's Tiffany for ya. Then at dinner, some people came. Kyle and Terrence decided to go reenact the picture i toook on the giant US Map in the courtyard. Louisiana is...oddly shaped so it looks like it has large man parts. So Terrence and Kyle made provocative poses. lmao. During music sectionals, we played Iron Man, but the band played weird notes that made it sound asianish. It was so freakin funny, we tried playing it again, but everyone including Schweickert was laughing so hard that we couldn't continue. So I sing a part from the White Knoll samaurai show from last year. Some more laughing. Then, I need to go to Target to buy a plunger b/c I need one for my solo. The entire camp, we have this rule that says "Band is not a date" and we have a baritone and horn player dating. So the entire time I've been acting like I care and yell at them "HAND CHECK!" and if I them close I yell "Band camp is not a date!!! Check the handbook section 2, paragraph 3a, line 4." Then she asks so it's against the rules if she touches a guy, but is it against the rules if she touches a girl. Hahahahaha, that led into many laughs.

Ok, 2 days left. I just wanted to get this down, and livejournal seems to be the best way.

So, yep, it's been awhile since i've written in here. So let's see I got my senior picture proofs. I have two goods ones that we're getting (one tux and one shirt & tie). Vera and I went up to Dreher and practiced/talked to Cameron/got a roster. I'm looking foward to this season, these freshman are supposed to rock hard but we'll see. We're going to have a rather large percussion section this year, yay!!! Work blew, my heart just was not in it at allll today. And my damn ATM card hasn't come yet, ugh. My summer reading is at a crawling pace right now, haha. It might get done.

I think Williams fucked up my academic decathlon stuff and I wasn't put in the class. Either that or I'm the only one who hasn't received any summer work. Thanks...bitch.

Hmm, well I'm out.

Adios,
David

So I'm sitting here watching Cheaper By the Dozen, it's pouring outside, i'm eating strudels, and I'm home alone.....this freakin' rocks. I love the rain, and the thunder.

Last night, I went to firstBEAT. It was so awesome. The Cadets won. I want to go to a later contest to see the cleaned up shows. Maybe the one up in Charlotte. I'm about 90% sure I'm gonna try out for the Carolina Crown this winter. I'd love to do it, it would be a lot of fun. I saw the jazz band drummer from the Furman camp last night, that was great!

I've been getting in touch with a lot of people from the camps. It's been cool. They're all very fun.

I'm working from 2-9 today, and then I'm off til Thursday, so I have to find something to do until Thursday. Any ideas? Come on now, I know yall've got some great ideas.

Ok, I'm out.

Adios,
David
